It truly is a gift to me knowing she is finally dancing on streets of gold worshipping Jesus. Things begin to come into perspective again if we just listen. I really love your list, it has a lot of really great ideas. What a lovely blog post. I rarely find lists like these that are so full of great ideas. I particularly like what you said about Jesus. Thank you! As an adult I have kept the same tradition I host the dinners but we go halves on cooking only the table bag presents are more gag gifts now and I do a fry up on Christmas day for dinner.
I also do a family photo by the Christmas tree every Christmas eve and hang a special ornamental key out for Santa. When my children and grandchildren were small I picked a special wrapping paper for each child. That way I did not have to put a tag on the present as they could look at the paper and know it was theirs!
Try these phrases next time your child starts bossing you or someone else around:
Helped when they were really young and could not read. Still do this for the grandchildren even though they are older!! I love Christmas!!!! Each member brings a wrapped gift and Santa Auctioneer takes bids on the wrapped presents. Presents have been pretty wild at times. From a two year old fruitcake to a silly snow globe. The Christmas Host then donates our auction funds to a charity.
We look forward to the family time, silly gifts and the true Spirit of Christmas. My absolute favorite Christmas tradition is one we started on Christmas Eve. Christmas Day was so full of presents — from opening ours, to traveling to the next family, then traveling to another family- it was just presents, presents, presents.
So, 15 years ago I decided that Christmas Eve was no longer a party night. We eat by candle light — although we keep the Christmas tree lights on ;. We read the Christmas story and talk about our year and things that we are thankful for. We then finish the evening with a short video of the birth of Christ and then exchange one gift — Christmas pajamas. It is by far the best night of the year.
Simple, sweet, and my kids will tell you that it is the best tradition ever! I read a tradition of giving Christmas pajamas Thanksgiving night. Then you could wear them all month. Too late this year will do it next year.

I made a Christmas Countdown for my son when he was one. Each day he gets a little gift. Some things he has received are: socks, a book, a matchbox car, sweet treats, or a Christmas craft to make. He is 4 now and the past few years he looks forward to it SO much! We also do a Christmas Eve box. I fill it with new pajamas for all, a new family movie or game, a small gift they need chapstick, socks, extra phone charger and some sort of treat for all hot cocoa and popcorn.
Something to wear, something they need, something to watch, and something to eat. Your email address will not be published. This site uses Akismet to reduce spam. Learn how your comment data is processed. Related Posts. Want to know how this blog makes money?

Family rituals can be contrasted with family routines, which also occur repeatedly but lack the symbolic meaning that family rituals hold. A family dinner every Friday night may be a routine. A family dinner at a fancy restaurant for Mom's birthday may be a ritual or tradition. Get expert tips to help your kids stay healthy and happy. Fiese, Barbara H. Journal of Family Psychology. Others may have to do with special events, such as that pearl necklace that is passed down at each daughter's weddings. Still, others are simply fun. A family full of baseball fans may make it a tradition to go to the stadium on opening day. It may have started with great-grandpa and is continued to involve the youngest members of the family.
